Bunyip
Alternatively known as Wowee-wowee, Yaa-loo, Dongu, King Pratie, Tuntabah, and many other indigenous names.
A class of horrifying monsters in the traditions and legends of the Australian aboriginal natives, which embodies the unlimited fury of nature's retaliatory powers, able to control or cause floods and drought.
In the folklore of Australia, Bunyips are known for causing nocturnal terror by uttering horrible roaring cries and jumping out of water holes, rivers and creeks, to attack, kidnap and devour unwary animals and people that come to these places for a drink of water.
Bunyips are variedly described monsters, but the traditional view is that they are a huge, dark and hairy creature, with long arms and enormous claws at the end of its hands, supposedly inhabiting inland waters, swamps, and billabongs. It has a distinctive loud and repetitive roar, and instead of eating its victims immediately, the Bunyip holds them prisoner, makes them work, and devours them later. They are also said to have a long lasting supernatural claim over its human victims; even if they escape, it will cause them death or misfortune.
Even though throughout the years many white settlers have reported Bunyip encounters and sightings, today most Australians consider the creature to be just an aboriginal myth.
